[text; backdated to a couple days after the bombings]
we have to stick to the stuff that works. no maiming than no morals, solid life lesson.

[text; backdated to a couple days after the bombings]
[text; backdated to a couple days after the bombings]
they should just admit its about wanting to get them out of the way for a while instead of pretending its gonna do them any good for them
[text; backdated to a couple days after the bombings]
wardens need to figure out what they think being an inmate means
[text; backdated to a couple days after the bombings]
do you mean wardens as a group cuz i don't think wardens as a group are going to agree on anything together ever, and i dont think thats a bad thing
[text; backdated to a couple days after the bombings]
definitely not as a whole but if you think inmates need to be saved or have just made the wrong choices or whatever... maybe thats just what id like to know
[text; backdated to a couple days after the bombings]
and i think some inmates need to be saved and some dont, and its the same as wardens. lots of wardens make deals for themselves or their worlds, i dont know how anybody can say wardens dont need saving.
but i think if somebody does not want saving, then its wrong to try to force it on them. and i mean the people who really dont want saving, not the ones who are in awful situations that they think they deserve or dont have any choice about.
[text; backdated to a couple days after the bombings]
its just. ive made plenty of bad choices so i would take back and some i wouldnt but whether they were good or bad really doesnt matter, there were things i had to do.
[text; backdated to a couple days after the bombings]
and i was helped a lot by people here but i dont think anybody saved me. it wasnt like that.
i wish you were a warden.
[text; backdated to a couple days after the bombings]
seriously, i wont say that i like being here or enjoy being an inmate but im glad we can be friends despite the arbitrary lines people like to draw. just try not to overly concerned about how you treat me even though im stuck and you arent
[text; backdated to a couple days after the bombings]
but thats not why i said i wish you were a warden, i wish you were a warden because you would be a better one than a lot of the ones weve got now.

do you want to hear a story?

[audio]
There was this one mission, all the Dead Men together. Imagine the scene: it's 1850, the last three days have been spent huddled in a French field. Everyone's wet and hungry, excluding Skulduggery, and waiting for the order to strike. Suddenly, Larrikin decides it's Anton's birthday and nothing can be said to dissuade him. Anton's trying to argue with him while everyone else is practically falling over from laughter.
Our targets are passing by. And Larrikin starts singing a happy birthday song and tries to give Anton a hug. Now, Anton is not a hugging type of person. Larrikin's going for the hug and Anton's grabbing him to keep him quiet and they end up in an intense, but completely silent, wrestling match. Finally, Anton gets him into a chokehold so he's lying there in the mud, face turning red, and then he manages to pull out a very crushed bun. He'd been hiding it for three days. He stuck a candle in it and declared it was Anton's birthday cake.
That was the only time we ever saw Anton Shudder smile while on a mission.

Somebody I'll tell you a story back, when I'm not so fucking tired.
[audio]
Ghastly used to say that's why we won the war. Not because of that mission but because of those moments. We were fighting for our friends, we were willing to die to for them. The other side, they were fighting to bring back their gods but more importantly they wanted to be there when their gods returned, to rule the world. They weren't willing to sacrifice themselves and so miss out on their share. There was no companionship, no trust.
We came together and we won and having those friends is what allowed us to stay sane through to that victory.
[He smiles, growing less serious.] And he accused me of being too flowery.
