I'm in level five, cabin ten, thank you.

{Just up a floor - that's not so bad. She'll be able to run back down to her room quickly if she needs to.

She gets to his cabin just a few minutes later, and knocks.]

[mentornomore]

[It's a little difficult to figure out how to knock, because he doesn't really have a door, just a curtain of rough cloth painted with what seems to be an abstract representation of two dragons in flight.]

Come in.

[He sounds a bit weak and very sorry for himself.]

whoops, let's say she knocked on the wall next to the curtained door, then

[She ducks under the curtain and looks around - this is definitely one of the weirder cabins that she's seen.]

You don't worry about people breaking in or nothing?

I'm sure she managed something, whatever

[mentornomore]

[There's no real furniture in the room, just baskets and cushions on the floor in general disarray, a few of them open enough to reveal clothes or paper or, in one case, a whole lot of jewelry stowed therein. And in the middle of the room, what appears to be a giant bowl growing from the ceiling on thick, flexible branches, with Chime looking over the edge.]

It made my bower from home. They aren't closed off.

[tucky]

Oh. I guess y'all don't steal from each other?

[She walks over slowly, still taking everything in.]

Are you in a tree right now?

[mentornomore]

Hm? Oh, yes, the colony lives in a mountain tree. We're a small court, so a lot of us fit in the teachers' bowers.

[Looking put upon, he sits up so he can look down at her without looking quite so much like he's just going to flop back down and fall asleep.]

[tucky]

I don't know what a bower is. ... I don't totally get what a court is, either.

[She offers him a sheepish, tired smile, leaning up to perch her chin on the edge of the big basket-bed. She at least looks better than he does, though not by much - her face is worn and tense, and her shoulders droop.]

[mentornomore]

[He wishes he could shift in front of her. Though maybe it's better. He doesn't want to know what his wings would feel like. He just reaches down with a slightly shaky hand to hoist her in if she wants.]

Too tired to talk much.

[tucky]

That's okay.

[She takes his hand and uses it to pull herself up; she tries to do it carefully and not jostle him, but she ends up tumbling in.]

Shit. Sorry.

[mentornomore]

[If there's an upside to the eerie nature of this malady, it's that his injuries barely seem attached to anything. He died messy, and everything hurts, but there are no bruises to bump or wounds to jostle, exactly. A bit of tugging and tumbling can't really make it worse. And now she's essentially in a gently swinging bowl of pillows big enough for three or four raksura, even in shifted form. As long as not too many of them are mature queens or older consorts.]

That's alright. I meant it about not being fun, though.

[tucky]

So did I.

[She tucks herself comfortably down among the pillow, rolling over to face him.]

I was thinking I'd lie here for a while, maybe.

[mentornomore]

[He rests his fingers in her hair, but he's not even up to that much cuddling. The skin that was burned and now simply hurts for the hell of it makes that difficult.]

That's what it's for.

[tucky]

It's nice.

[She brushes her fingers against his, then against his cheek.]

You're nice, too.

[mentornomore]

You're very sweet.

[He'd rather just whine, but Tiff makes him behave himself a bit.]

[tucky]

Not all the time. Just sometimes.

[mentornomore]

So far, then. Wish I could be more hospitable.

[tucky]

Who says you need to be? You fucking died. Anyone'd be upset.

[mentornomore]

I don't know if that counts as an excuse not to be polite to visitors, though.

[tucky]

I think it does.

And you're being polite to me.

[mentornomore]

You know, you bite less than most of the women I know.

[Which could be relevant to both statements, really.]

That a good or a bad thing?

[mentornomore]

It's feeling nice right now, anyway.

[He's probably being unfair. Even Stone wouldn't chase him out of bed right after he'd died. But he enjoys feeling put upon.]
