Well, it's more of an arbora fashion, but I still like it for special occasions. Even if I do usually end up hitting myself in the nose if I wear anything that dangles.

Everyone does, if there's somebody to impress. Consorts wear the most, probably.

[Or... normal ones do. When your most notable consorts are a reformed feral and a line grandfather, you take what you can get.]

I still don't get the consort thing. Is that just somebody you sleep with?

It's something you're born. There are three kinds of aeriat. Warriors, like me, and queens and consorts.

[And explaining the difference without mentioning wings or shapeshifting is tricky.]

They're much bigger and stronger than we are. And they can clutch.

Does that mean they can have babies?

All girls can do that on my world. Well, most girls.

All arbora can, and queens and consorts. It's just warriors who can't.

All of them? Guys, too?

I'm not supposed to be a warrior. I was born a mentor. It's an arbora caste. But the colony was failing, and dying courts need warriors. It's old magic. No one knows how to fix it even though we're not in danger anymore.

You got changed from one to another with magic? Is that what happened?

Yes, and I hate it. That's my deal, getting my caste back.

I'm sorry you have to get a deal to do it.

Were you forced to fight and stuff when you were a warrior?

[mentornomore]

I don't think anyone managed not to fight, the trouble we've had the last few turns. Though I do wish that would stop. No, I'm just a terrible warrior. I lost my magic, I won't live as long, I can't have clutches... I never got along with warriors at all, before.
