I got faith in some parts of the Barge. I don't have faith in the Admiral or how he does things.

My views on this place and the Admiral... Honestly they've yet to be established, but it's fighting an uphill battle.

You're a lot more forgiving and understanding than most people.

[ Steve certainly doesn't see himself that way. ]

Most inmates hate the Admiral.

[She hadn't, but.]

But just, like, in general. You listen. You care.

It's hard to hate him when I'm benefitting from some of what he's done.

I... I'm not sure that's just me. Some people make that easier than others.

[She just nods at the first part; she understands that. It's how she'd felt for months.]

[ He chuckles lightly. ] I think you've just caught me on a good day.

[ He's never thought that much about it. He knows he can be a good listener when with friends or for work, and of course he cares, but he's never considered it to be anything outside of the ordinary. ]

I think I've caught you on a lot of good days. I haven't seen a bad one yet.

[ This time Steve laughed. ]

That's only because I haven't had the chance to blow anything up or get anyone shot.

[ He joking, mostly. Although if he ever gets locked up down there and decides he doesn't want to be he just might. ]

Yeah, that's what they all say, but sometimes it just can't be helped.

[ Or it can but Steve has a skewed view and a lack of patience. ]

When can't it be helped? Like, in what situations?

Uh... That can be difficult to sum up.

I mean I don't typically cause an explosion just to blow things up, there's usually a lot of confounding factors.

You ain't the kind to do it for fun?

[ Steve laughs. ]

I think it depends on what you consider fun and who you talk to.

Sometimes you have to test something to make sure when you do it out in the field it's going to go as you expect. I consider that fun. But one time I used a grenade to blow the locked door in a pawn shop. I didn't do that for fun, the pawn shop owner refused to open it and I needed to get to the other side quickly.

[ He pauses a moment. ] The person I was with... well he didn't agree with my method. But it served the purpose. I knew the grenade was only going to blow the door and make a mess, the building stayed standing and no one was hurt.

Are you police?

[ Steve's quiet a moment. ]

No.

[ Technically he isn't. It's not a lie. ]
