Yeah, that's what they all say, but sometimes it just can't be helped.

[ Or it can but Steve has a skewed view and a lack of patience. ]

Uh... That can be difficult to sum up.

I mean I don't typically cause an explosion just to blow things up, there's usually a lot of confounding factors.

[ Steve laughs. ]

I think it depends on what you consider fun and who you talk to.

Sometimes you have to test something to make sure when you do it out in the field it's going to go as you expect. I consider that fun. But one time I used a grenade to blow the locked door in a pawn shop. I didn't do that for fun, the pawn shop owner refused to open it and I needed to get to the other side quickly.

[ He pauses a moment. ] The person I was with... well he didn't agree with my method. But it served the purpose. I knew the grenade was only going to blow the door and make a mess, the building stayed standing and no one was hurt.

Are you police?

[ Steve's quiet a moment. ]

No.

[ Technically he isn't. It's not a lie. ]

... You don't have to talk about it. I was just wondering.

I like you no matter what you are or what you do.

I'm not ashamed of who I was or what I did... It's more the other way around if you know what I mean.

[ And in all honesty he's still worried about the repercussions of who he was getting to be too public of knowledge. Not that he thinks it will change Tiffany's mind about him, or that he can't trust her to know without saying, but the less people who know, the less he needs to worry about. ]

Quentin asked for me, he was denied. He figured once I got a permanent warden the file would be released and I could get an idea what the issue is.

I don't think your file's gonna tell you anything you don't know. But they ain't all written the same; I noticed that. So maybe I'm wrong.
