[It's Christmas, Barge residents. And as it happens, one of your new arrivals is a Christmas angel.

Well, okay, she's just dressed up as one. Interestingly enough, it was Christmas on her world too, and she just got done performing in a Christmas pageant: she's wearing a white costume robe, and has a tinsel crown on her head. The front of her robe is bloody and dirty, and torn in a few places-- and given how beat-up and damaged her face looks, it's probably safe to assume that at least some of that blood is hers.

Currently she's wandering into to common area on level 6, a bit unsteady on her feet. She's also filming herself, because she found a fancy phone so why the hell not. Soon enough she stops walking and poses dramatically, arms held wide.]

Be not afraid-- for behold, I bring good tidings of... of, uh...

[And then she collapses. So yeah, that's a thing that's happening.]

[She tries to point to her own eyes, but can't quite make her hands work right.]

[He can't actually see her gesturing; the way his vision works now is based on shape rather than light, so the comm screen is always flat and blank. But people generally remark on the same thing first.]

[... she doesn't know what it might be like.]

It is like a curse.

[Not precisely that. But very like it. And it gets the idea across: that it was done to him, that it is malevolent, that it is strange magic.]

[And he - laughs. A rough, surprised bark. One of only a handful of times in the last year.]

I can move as well as you, although I cannot see colors. And it does hurt quite a lot.

Yes. I'm mostly used to it.

[You never really get used to it, except for the ways you do. And Marsh is a stubborn bastard.]

[She nods sagely.]

Self-punishment.

[Another, small laugh, rueful, mostly at himself. If she were actually trying to analyze him, if she were Kelsier or Iris trying to get help him, all worry and fuss and care, he'd quibble, he'd say things about honor and memory and honesty, but - she's not. She's just telling the truth as she sees it, without any concern for his mangled history at all.]

So do you... want to be in here? Is that part of the punishment too?

I'm here because God told me I needed a vacation.

[A certain pursed, dour sarcasm, because Sazed you have terrible taste in vacations. Just because he really is God now doesn't mean Marsh has to listen to him. But it turned out to be a good idea in the end.]

I'm...very fond of some of the people I've met here. And I couldn't abandon my inmate. When he's free, though, I'll probably go home.

Is that what usually happens? They let you go when you help someone else go?

Wardens are allowed to leave, if we want to. What usually happens is, the Admiral assigns you. One warden to one inmate, and you're supposed to - watch out for them. Help them. Be there for them, but be responsible for them too, and deal with it if they cause trouble.

When they're free, the warden gets a deal. A - wish, I guess.

What kind of wish?

[She sounds extra-interested now. She has a lot of wishes.]
