"How about a place that's important to you, this time?" she suggests. "I already showed you Pennsylvania, so..."

"Hmm." Sweeney lifts his chin, playfully dubious. "Well, I guess. Since ya were the one that died." Like that's the point that justifies the compromise.

He cocks his head with a touch of a smirk. "So, somethin' in nature? Or more settled in? Populated an' such." The wheels are spinning in his brain as he sorts through some options.

"If you're picking, you should pick," she retorts, hiding a smile. But then she adds, "Something in nature. The people the Enclosure makes are creepy. And it doesn't have to be something, like-- personal, if you don't want it to be; I don't wanna pry."

"Touche," he concedes with a chuckle. "Nature suits me just fine. Best places I got are gonna fit that bill."

Sweeney's expression grows a rakish for a moment.

"Pretty sure if ya've had yer tongue in my mouth, ya've earned a bit of pryin'."

She laughs in surprise at that - hard enough that it sends a sharp pain through her still-sore abdomen, making her wince, but she finds that she doesn't really care.

"But I didn't. Not really. So you get to keep your privacy if you want it."

At least she can laugh about it. That's a good sign. Sweeney playfully rolls his eyes. "I'll see what I can do."

He glances back to the door.

"So when ya bustin' outta here?"

[tucky]

"Ummm..." Her hand goes down to her abdomen, prodding it experimentally. "Probably a couple days. I still kind of feel like I have the flu and the first day after I woke up was kind of. Eventful."

He nods, accepting the information. His gaze goes distant in passing, then returns to her. "So what happened?" He tips his head in her direction to accent the query.

"My friend Sariss thought Callisto - the lady I'm paired with - was the one who killed me, and so she went after Callisto for revenge, and they got into it and somebody found them and they both got thrown in Zero."

She gives a little huff, making a face as she burrows her shoulders more deeply into the pillows propping her up.

"So I woke up and felt like I was gonna pass out again, but I had to, like-- deal with that."

And dealing with that, obviously, involved marching down to Zero and doing her best to secure their release, because that's what you do with violent, dangerous people who've just had a violent physical confrontation with each other.

Sweeney welcomes the information, but at her conclusion, he brings things back around. "So neither of them killed ya then?" He cocks his head. "Do ya know who did?"

"Yeah. You're not gonna try to get revenge, are you?"

She figures no, but it still feels like it's worth checking.

He laughs, but manages to stifle it quickly. "Fuck no." Sweeney quirks a crooked smile. "'specially after that clusterfuck on the network. Dangerous waters ta wade inta when yer sittin' right here bein' Not Dead."

"What do you think of death here?" she asks curiously. "If you don't mind saying."

Not Dead or not, she knows it's an unpleasant topic.

Sweeney takes a slow breath, looking around the room as he considers the thing. It's not something he's been overly worried about, just due to his general fortitude.

"Seems like it ain't that big of a deal, honestly." His tone remains casual. "Not makin' light of what happened to ya," he adds sincerely. "Just...there isn't a worry 'bout if yer comin' back. No concern ya might end up somewhere else." Hell. That's been his big concern.

"Unless I read the pamphlet wrong." There's an implied question in there somewhere. "Just sucks fer a bit."

"I ain't offended. It's easier if you don't think it's that big of a deal. And you're right, people come back and it just sucks for a bit."

She pauses for a moment, fiddling with a strand of her hair.

"It's still death, though. I've been knocked unconscious before, and this feels different from that. And most of us who don't feel like it's a big deal when we die feel that way because we've died a lot. Most people don't get to this point the easy way."

"Yeah, it weren't great the first time," he agrees, even though he means the more proper death that got him here. "Don't mean ta say that there aren't costs, just like anythin' else."

He wonders if it would actually be less of a burden than one of those fucking breaches. "Ya've had a good amount then?"

[tucky]

"This is my fourth time being killed by a person. I'm not gonna count the time we got invaded by monsters and people were dying over and over." Even though that, more than anything, is what had inured her to death.

"How many times for you? Just that one time, or..."

He nods tightly. "Aye." Sweeney adds a quick caveat. "That I remember." Because who the fuck knows what has happened to him over the centuries.

"Does it bother ya? Now that ya've done it so much?"

[tucky]

"It bothers me if I don't make it worth it," she says. "But I fought back."

"Good on ya," he remarks supportively. Silence hangs for a moment.

"Now that ya know I won't avenge ya, ya gonna let me know who did that to ya?" Sweeney's tone promises that she doesn't have to answer if she doesn't want to.

Which she definitely appreciates, and she flashes him a little smile.

"Thank you."

Both for the explicit promise and the implicit one.

"It was a new lady; she didn't tell me her name. She didn't believe that I couldn't tell her how to find the Admiral, or how to escape, and that's-- I don't think it's that surprising, actually. That the Barge sounds like total bullshit to new people, I mean."

Well that description isn't overly helpful. Doesn't seem like it's Tiffany's fault though, on account of being dead when names could have been exchanged. When she comments on the experience of newcomers, his head falls to the side in a brief, vague shrug.

"Certainly not what one might expect from an afterlife, that's fer fuckin' sure."

He considers her, his gaze fixed on her for a long breath.

"Lucky she found you then. Someone else might've taken it a bit more personal with the gettin' murdered."

"You think I'm pretty weird, huh."

There's no real malice to the statement. She knows she's weird.

His brow furrows at the question, because to him it's unexpected. Sweeney promptly shakes his head. "Nah. I mean, not fer that." They're obviously still in the 'getting to know one another' phase.

"I don't think I'd take it personal either." Where's the real harm if you can't actually die?

"Well, 'less it was personal. Then there might be some extra violence. But just some newcomer...eh?"

"If you wanna know the truth," she says, "I was impressed. People who fight, and people who stand up for themselves - those are real important traits to have, and they're not always easy."
