And I thought I shouldn't do that, 'cause I thought it'd be insulting to her.

Why would insulting her matter, Tiffany?

[tucky]

'Cause she's an inmate. My inmate. I ain't gonna treat inmates bad.

[recinerate]

Even at the cost of your own safety? At the cost of hurting someone you claim to love?

[he's actually getting a little angry about this. he's fairly good at hiding it, though - his words start coming out a little more flat in tone, and his jaw tenses for a moment, but he otherwise shows no outward sign of agitation.]

You needn't be a doormat, Tiffany.

I wasn't. I went to go visit my inmate and that's it.

[recinerate]

But you weren't careful about it.

[he's angry, and he can't quite put his finger on why he's angry about this, and that just further complicates the feelings he doesn't want to admit to having, even to himself. now he lets his anger show, by yanking abruptly on the hem of his jeans, then sitting back suddenly, crossing his arms against his chest. he sucks in a breath, then quickly exhales through his teeth.]

We're going in fucking circles. I don't know what you want me to say. I thought if I said, like, "Hey Sylvanas, I'm gonna come see you, but I don't trust you so I'm gonna bring a bodyguard", she'd maybe be insulted and think I was just another warden thinking the worst of her.

[recinerate]

Then I suppose it doesn't matter. A circular argument allows for no progress to be made.

[beyond might be sulking a little now.]

[tucky]

It matters. It-- it matters.

Y'all think that if I ain't agreeing with you, it means I ain't listening, but that's not true at all. I got my own opinions now, and I don't have to agree with everything y'all say.

[recinerate]

No. I suppose you don't.

[but you should, he thinks. because he believes he's right.]

You are a self-determining entity, Tiffany. You make your own choices, and you will live with the consequences.

[tucky]

I know. And that's scary, you know? But I think it's how it's supposed to be. And I know I gotta take care of myself, but I think I'm supposed to put my inmate first. Whoever my inmate is.

I regret doing it, but not 'cause of me, mostly. I regret it 'cause of Sylvanas. It weren't the right way to approach her.

[recinerate]

Will you attempt to approach her again?

[tucky]

No, unless she says she wants to talk. If she don't want to, then I'm gonna respect that.

And I promised Lourdes I wouldn't meet her in person alone again. I don't know if it was a good promise to make, promising not to see my own inmate, but I did it. And I can't break it now. If Sylvanas changes her mind and wants to see me in person again, I'm just gonna have to figure something out.

[recinerate]

Do you know how to defend yourself?

[with all the violence he's already witnessed and heard about, it's become a salient topic, for beyond.]

There are those here who could teach you.

Barbara gave me some things, yeah. Weapons.

But I don't got any powers.

[recinerate]

What sort of weapons?

[tucky]

A couple guns.

I grew up around guns, so I know how to use 'em. I killed somebody with a gun before.

[recinerate]

[she'd mentioned stabbing people, so beyond isn't terribly surprised to hear her admit this.]

Better to have a weapon you know how to use, I suppose. Attempting to use something you're unfamiliar with would only hinder you, not help. But you should be able to defend yourself without weapons, as well. Weapons can be taken from you.

[tucky]

I can throw a punch, but it's like I said. I don't got powers.

[recinerate]

I remember. Sylvanas does, though, yes?

[tucky]

Somebody must've given 'em back. Or maybe she had the wishing powers and she gave 'em back to herself.

[recinerate]

Is there any way to find out how this transpired?

[tucky]

Probably not. I could ask around, I guess, but I don't think it really matters.
