[It's Christmas, Barge residents. And as it happens, one of your new arrivals is a Christmas angel.

Well, okay, she's just dressed up as one. Interestingly enough, it was Christmas on her world too, and she just got done performing in a Christmas pageant: she's wearing a white costume robe, and has a tinsel crown on her head. The front of her robe is bloody and dirty, and torn in a few places-- and given how beat-up and damaged her face looks, it's probably safe to assume that at least some of that blood is hers.

Currently she's wandering into to common area on level 6, a bit unsteady on her feet. She's also filming herself, because she found a fancy phone so why the hell not. Soon enough she stops walking and poses dramatically, arms held wide.]

Be not afraid-- for behold, I bring good tidings of... of, uh...

[And then she collapses. So yeah, that's a thing that's happening.]

[He should probably warn her. About what? Well, there's a list of things he should probably warn her about. Vampires, werewolves, biters, to just name a few. And then of course the floods and breaches.]

[Instead, he just nods.]

How much do you know about this place already?

[She shifts a shoulder in what might be a half-shrug.]

I heard it's nice. They got a garden and a planetarium. But I don't know how I... got here.

[Figures she's heard the nice parts. He doesn't think she'd be quite so calm if she knew the other, less than nice parts.]

You were brought here by the Admiral.

Is that like the prison warden?

[He nods again.]

Something like that. He's the one steering this ship.

It's a ship?

[Other people might assume he's being metaphorical. Not her-- she takes things pretty literally.]

Yes. Though the kind for space travel, not water.

[Just to be clear. He says this with all seriousness, so he's not bullshitting her. As hard as that may be to believe.]

Yeah?

Can you prove it?

[She's a bit skeptical.]

Haven't looked out any windows yet, have you?

[Not that hard to prove.]

I'm lying down right now.

Well, when you get the chance. In the meantime, [he shrugs a shoulder], whether you believe me or not is up to you.

I ain't stupid, is all. I don't believe everything I hear.

[Just, you know. Most things.]

[He holds his hands up slightly.]

I don't blame you for it. It's smarter to be skeptical.

That's right.

[She nods, satisfied.]

But say we are in space. Where's the air coming from?

Life support systems, I'd imagine.

[He hasn't been down in the engine room and has no intention of it. It's just a highly educated guess.]

So we're all astronauts now?

I suppose it does, [he says with a very light smile.]

[She shakes her head slowly, still taking this all in.]

-- Hey, is my sentence still the same?

It doesn't work like that here.

Is it longer?

Could be. Could also be shorter. Like I said, this place doesn't work like that.

You're an inmate, but there's no one particular thing you did that landed you here and you don't have a sentence.

That don't sound like a prison. It sounds like a kidnapping to me.

[Most of the inmates are actually dead, so he doesn't know if he'd really classify it as a kidnapping so much as a detour. Purgatory seems a little more fitting. But all of that seems like far too much to get into with her, so he lets it lie.]

It's a little bit of both.

And I don't get another trial? Do I get to talk to my lawyer? I got a good lawyer. Does he know I'm here?

[Philip shakes his head no.]

There's no trial. No lawyers.
