"Warren? This was his idea?"

Pfffffff.

"He said he's gonna stop bothering you about it, anyway."

"Did he start?" She really didn't notice.

"He contacted you?"

"Yeah, he said he's been putting shit on your door? Like, all over your door. He started out all pushy but he backed off way quicker than I thought he would."

She snorts.

"All talk. He tried to tell me he wasn't condemning me for lazy, and then swore to have me either working or without a moment's peace."

"Thank you for not setting him on fire," she says, very solemnly.

"The opportunity didn't present itself," she replies with simple disappointment.

"And I'd like to keep my sword, so, you're welcome."

"Would you teach me how to use one a little bit, or would you still kill me if we tried?"

She blinks, surprised, the gold in her aura shifting a bit.

"You want to learn to use a sword? Why?"

"Because you have one, and it matters to you."

Is this really a surprising answer by this point, Callisto?

Copper glimmers through her aura.

"I've been asking for one since the first day. It matters now?"

"It's always mattered, but you didn't wanna take the deal to have one only in the Enclosure, so--"

"Either you still don't see how insulting that is, or it doesn't matter to you," she snorts, and the copper crackles brighter before being abruptly subdued by the purple.

Callisto sighs.

"It's still neither," she insists. "And I'll say so as many times as I got to. No good choices, remember?"

"I like you more when you aren't saying that like it's going to someday make it okay for me," she replies coolly.

The phrasing hurts more than the general sentiment, and her aura flinches right along with her.

"I don't expect it to make it okay," she says quietly. "I just don't want you ever to feel like I don't give a fuck. That's all."

She taps her chin idly, watching those colors, watching Tiffany through them.

"Have you ever had something you bled to keep? That you had to fight tooth and nail and soul to get that wasn't another person?"

"Callisto-- I don't know how to get you to believe that I do understand why it wasn't a good enough offer for you," she says, closing her eyes so that she doesn't have to see her own aura dull and fade.

"It's simple: stop trying to tell me there are no good choices like that's something I care about."

It's not that Callisto doesn't understand that Tiffany is in a rough position. It's that she isn't interested in reconciling the two.

"And what if I'm not lying about expecting you to care? What if I'm not picking this one thing to lie about after I've told you the truth about every other thing? What if."

She pauses, biting down hard on the inside of her cheek.

"You don't have to care about what I care about. But I do. Just because you don't care doesn't mean nobody fucking does, Callisto."

"I don't think you're lying," she returns, clear voiced, the gold crackling again through her aura.

"I don't think you don't care. I think you must have no idea how insulting it is because if you did, you wouldn't bring it up again."

"Jesus Christ, I didn't bring it up to--"

Something stops her here: recent fights and failures with Trixie, as well as past fights and failures with Callisto. The ugly knowledge that, if it is possible to be convincing enough and clever enough and good enough to get through to Callisto on this, it's sure as hell not something she's capable of.

"Never mind. Forget I said it."

Her eyes narrow, keen in a way she's mostly left behind with Tiffany outside of a spar, hiding whether she's merely alert or actively considering a weakness in order to strike.

"No," she says simply.

"I don't think this conversation is doing shit for you, Callisto, and I don't wanna drag you into it just to make me feel like you understand and respect me."

"What do you want to happen, every time you remind me that my powers, my sword, were offered to me in part?" There's more, but she starts there, ignoring the protest.

"I get it, Callisto." She stands, turning to pace across the room. "Okay? I get that I've failed you; you don't gotta spell it out. I know."
