A soft, stuttering sigh.
"The wanting part's on you."

A moment later she tries again: "I wanted to join the Amazons." Understatement. "Deiyasca wanted it too. Want wasn't enough."
no subject
And maybe one of the hardest ones.
"It's a good place to start. 'Cause we can talk about all the other pieces, but if you don't want it, then we won't get far."
no subject
"So let's pretend I do," she hazards, though even as she says it she feels like maybe it will sink her before she can make any use of it. She clears her throat almost delicately.
"What now?"
no subject
"If you want, we can start with my idea of focusing on what you don't want first," she says, taking Callisto's suggestion literally and pretending, for the moment, that the wanting is a hurdle that's already been cleared.
"Like-- no place that would expect you to be quiet and peaceful, or no groups or goals that would ask you not to be angry. And then maybe we can talk about the people who've gotten along with who came from worlds that made sense to you, or we can get ideas of things to think about from ports or breaches. I think you're probably gonna have to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what is meaningful to you, because you've spent so long no letting most things be meaningful at all. So there's probably gonna be a lot of talking, to me and to other people, or even trying things out before you realize whether you fit in them or not. You don't have to pick one place, but--"
A pause.
"I think i'd be easier on you if you did. I don't think you leaving people is gonna be much easier on you than people leaving you."
no subject
"And I don't suppose the talking is optional." Resigned.
