[He can understand her just fine. That's not the problem. The problem is he isn't really in a mood to listen. He hisses at her and rattles his teeth against the bars before he realizes who she is.

Once he does recognize her, he hisses more petulantly and folds his long spindly black arms over his chest. It's not natural Saturnynian body language, so it looks very weird. Like tangled licorice. Licorice with elbows.]

[She takes a couple steps back, but otherwise stands her ground.]

Shit. I forgot I can't understand you when you're like this. Can Iris understand you? The lady who brought you here? Just, uh... nod or shake your head.

[Iris eyes him with distaste - not, as one might think, because of the whole lobster thing, just because he's pissed her off.]

Are you really sulking 'cause you don't get to eat people, Francesco? It's just the Zero dampening fields shorting 'is perception filter, Tiffany love, 'e'll be fine when you let 'im out.

He's worried about people seeing him like this, Iris. ... I think.

[She doesn't know the reasons behind it, but based on his reaction the last time his filter had gone on the fritz, she's pretty sure that this form of his is a Very Big Secret.]

[He's mostly sulking because he's in a cage, and because he's not looking what he considers his best. It's hard to communicate that at the moment. He smacks his tail against the bars. That communicates his displeasure, at least.]

Iris, can you understand him? Can you speak Satur... whatever you said?

[This is really the first time she's started to get the idea that he might be anything but a very unconventional shapeshifting vampire.]

I might, I don't know. On the one 'and the bus takes care of that usually; on the other 'and, the Zero shielding cuts off contact. Right now 'e's just making grumpy noises, I can tell you that much.

[He glares at Iris, although it's hard to tell since he has no eyelids. Instead of hissing again, he makes a noise like a pterodactyl vomiting a string instrument. It more or less means release me. With slightly more swearing.]

What about that? Did that mean anything?

[She narrows her eyes in concentration.]

My foremothers were... pineapples? And 'e'd like to come out now please. I'm going to assume that last phrase meant please, any road.

[Now is not the time to mention mothers. He snarls and slams his claws against the bed-frame beside him. That definitely did not mean please.]

[Siiiiigh.]

Francesco, do you wanna go back to your room?

[He forces his head to nod in a close approximation of how a human's might. It's a little stilted, but good enough. He pulls his arms, and all of the small legs that line his belly in towards himself, because it's the opposite of striking out with them.]

Iris? Can we...

'Course. I will tell you both I've got my staser now. Just in case you 'aven't calmed down yet, me laddo.

[But she doesn't hesitate to open the door.]

[He slinks out of the cell, still managing to look sulky despite the fact that he's an eldritch horror. His spindly fingers and swimmerets twitch, but he doesn't lunge at anyone and he isn't looking at either of their necks.]

You want me to go out in the hallway and check if anybody's there?

[If Iris is right, his filter will stop glitching once he's out of Zero, but leaving Zero means putting himself out in public while in his secret form.]

[He scuttle stomps past her to the door in lieu of an answer. Too many people have seen him now; they'll never keep their blunt-toothed mouths shut. His masquerade is utterly ruined.

There isn't anyone out there anyway, which is both pleased and disappointed about. He still would not mind snarling at someone at the moment.]

[Tiffany follows close behind, hoping that Iris wasn't wrong.]

[In the hallway he begins to fiddle with the device attached to what might be called his hip. It's not clear how it is attached, but it's certainly not a natural part of his body. It hums and chirps reluctantly several times before finally making its metallic science fiction-y noise, and Francesco stands there looking human and grimacing like humanity hurts.]

[Once they're outside and Francesco changes back, Tiffany breathes a sigh of relief. His space lobster form doesn't bother her, but it clearly bothers him.

She hangs back, waiting to see how he'll answer Iris's question.]

[He answers with a withering glare.]

Are you entirely serious?

[Having seen what he is, that sort of question answers itself.]

'Ardly ever, lovey, but I'd still like to know. Be like Tiffany being embarrassed 'cause she doesn't walk on all fours and moo, Francesco - what gives?

But we won't tell anyone about it. Right, Iris?
