[After the first night of intense, violent nightmares, Tiffany appears on the network looking alert and wild-eyed. She hasn't gotten much rest, but she's running on adrenalin, so it's not showing just yet.]

Something ain't right here.

I know-- I know y'all like to talk about death a lot. All the inmates are dead, and we died before we came here, and it's because we are vile sinners that we were brought to the Barge instead of ascending to heaven.

[Absolutely no one she's talked to has used the term "vile sinners"; she's adding that bit in on her own.]

And I didn't believe it then, but now-- I understand now; I do. I do. I'm dead and she killed me. She beat me and killed me; knocked out my teeth and probably snapped my neck. I get it, okay? Library girl, pool guy, and Mason were right! And I was wrong. I understand and accept it. I'm ready. So you can stop; I don't need to see anymore. Don't leave me to rot in purgatory. Please--

[Her voice raises suddenly, to a near-shout.]

-- please, please let me in!

[She takes a long, shaky breath, and when she speaks again her voice is quieter.]

Please.

[There is definitely something up with Tiffany.

On the first day, it starts small(ish), with her post to the network. She comes out of her room less often than usual, and doesn't show up for meals (not even lunch with Merlin). By day two, she won't be answering calls or texts with anything but apocalyptic Bible verses. By day three, Bibles will start disappearing from the chapel, and shaky, jagged crosses will appear on her cabin door, carved into the wood. Days four and five are going to get ugly, but it'll be mostly internal, because that's when she'll shut down completely: she won't leave her room or look at her phone, she won't eat, she won't even get out of bed. Every sleeping moment will be plagued by gory, horrific nightmares, and every waking moment will be fraught with confusion, grief, and feelings of betrayal. She'll be traumatized, sleep-deprived, and convinced that she's lost the favor of God...

... But she'll be too bone-tired to fight back anymore.]

[She vaguely remembers Mason saying something about being a "reaper"-- she wonders now if that means he works with God, or has even met Him.]

I think that when God punishes people, he does it in order to teach them something. Out of love, like when you're a kid an' you steal something from a store, an' your dad punishes you so that when you get older, you don't do it an' end up in prison. He does it to keep you safe an' to keep you going to a worse place.

More often he's trying to each you to be a better person'n you are.

[... It kind of makes sense. She doesn't like it, but he's probably right. So she just nods, and repeats herself.]

... You ain't mad at me about that time in the pool room?

[Aw Mason, you're a good guy.]

Yeah? Thanks.

I wasn't really supposed to give you the beer, was I?

Nah, you weren't. But it was my fault for asking for it in the first place.

Do you wish you hadn't now?

S'hard for me to justify past consequences.

[She barely even understands what he means by that. She has a long way to go.]

You getting nightmares, too? I heard other people are.

[To be fair, Mason barely knows what he means half the time]

Yeah. Yeah, a bit. S'a flood, isn't it?

[She still thinks it's God, but it might also be a flood.]

You got anyone to hang out with today?

Nah, not particularly. Why d'you ask?

You wanna hang out with me?

[Merlin has been spending much of his time with her today, but he went down to the clinic to work. She's lonely, and Mason is funny and kind; she thinks he would make a good distraction from... everything.]

..Heh.

Yeah, actually. Yeah, I do. Sounds nice.

Room six-oh-three.

[The door's unlocked; if he comes in he'll see that her cabin looks like a fancy hotel room. Tiffany's lying sideways on the bed, head hanging off the edge.]

On me way, then.

[And now that he's sort of stopped drinking, it's easier for Mason to find the room. He knocks, and opens the door a crack, peeking in]

S'not often a girl invites me to her room.

[tucky]

[She waves him in, not bothering to actually get up or move in any significant way.]

Yeah? Why not?

[maced_eggs]

[He pushes open the door and shuts it behind him, dropping down to sit on the floor]

Well, s'either the smell, the drinking, or the fact that they're usually, uhm. Dead.

Which is the same case here, technic'ly.

Yeah.

[She doesn't protest the death thing this time. She doesn't sound happy about it, but she accepts it.]

... What smell? You don't smell that bad.

[Though that might say more about her than it says about him.]

I don't?

...Huh. Must be all the showers Gwenny's making me take.

[tucky]

What, you don't like showers? The showers here are great. Hot water and everything.

[maced_eggs]

It's not that I don't like them. It's just that I forget to take them some days. Most days.

[tucky]

Oh.

[She twists around and slides off the bed, coming to sit on the floor next to him.]

Well, it's probably less important for guys than for girls, I think.

[maced_eggs]

[He gives a bit of a grin, scooting over to give her room]

Yeah, but it's still not a habit me warden likes to see. So I shower some. Makes her happy.
