[It's Christmas, Barge residents. And as it happens, one of your new arrivals is a Christmas angel.

Well, okay, she's just dressed up as one. Interestingly enough, it was Christmas on her world too, and she just got done performing in a Christmas pageant: she's wearing a white costume robe, and has a tinsel crown on her head. The front of her robe is bloody and dirty, and torn in a few places-- and given how beat-up and damaged her face looks, it's probably safe to assume that at least some of that blood is hers.

Currently she's wandering into to common area on level 6, a bit unsteady on her feet. She's also filming herself, because she found a fancy phone so why the hell not. Soon enough she stops walking and poses dramatically, arms held wide.]

Be not afraid-- for behold, I bring good tidings of... of, uh...

[And then she collapses. So yeah, that's a thing that's happening.]

When's the last time you got outside?

Uh... outside, or out of prison? 'Cause I mean, we got a yard and everything.

We have better than a yard.

Not that I'm not, you know, naturally curious about the answer to the second question, but it's not really my business yet, is it?

It's been a couple years. I got a reduced sentence 'cause my lawyer made a deal.

What do you have that's better than the yard?

Really. [Well, if she's sharing.] What kind of deal?

It's called the Enclosure. More space, different types of spaces. A hell of a lot more vegetation than there was in the prison yards I've seen. It's not so much like a cage.

Like a park.

Kind of like a park. Yeah.

Ain't got a very nice name, though.

That's true. It's just another word for cage. In some ways any prison's a prison.

Minimum security. What's this one?

Well, nobody's ever escaped. Not successfully. So I guess you could say maximum security if you wanted to. But I've been to max and there's not much superficial resemblance.

You got transferred like this, too? Without knowing it first?

No, ma'am. When I say I've been I mean I visited. I had a friend on death row. But I did show up here without any warning. [A pause, then, a touch less conversationally, more gravely, more gently--] After I died.

You died and got brought back to life?

I think the jury's still out on that. But I sure don't feel dead.

Yeah, they-- they can do that. My auntie has a half-sister who died on the operating table, but they brought her back.

Well, I got shot about twenty times, so it'd have to be some kind of miracle.

My brother-- he went to high school with a guy who got accidentally shot in the head, and he lived.

Do you honestly believe that? That I survived?
