Hey, y'all. I been thinking about some stuff lately - about powers. I don't have any and I never did, except for Admiral powers and except for one time when I thought I had some of my own - but that's another story.

They're just kinda all over the place here, I noticed. Arthas had his, and he tried to kill the whole Barge. And I know wardens hurt people with their powers sometimes. I've seen it. And we got inmates who don't have any powers at all, but still hurt and kill people. It's like I was telling someone earlier - it ain't like the Barge is safe when inmates have powers, and dangerous when they don't. It's a lot more complicated than that.

I got two inmates I been talking to, Lourdes and Pietro - and they want their powers back 'cause they don't feel right and whole without 'em. And I don't blame 'em, if I'm gonna be real honest. I maybe would have, before I was a warden, but now I got a different perspective. We're letting parts of people be locked away, and how's anyone supposed to trust us if we do that and don't care?

But maybe it ain't right to just give 'em back without thinking about it, neither - 'cause some of the powers are dangerous, and all of us'd be affected if something happened. So we decided that since they don't got wardens of their own, we're gonna talk to the whole Barge about it and see if any of y'all got objections. Or-- or questions or concerns. Stuff like that.

Pietro's got super speed, and super senses so he can see things okay when he's using his super speed. Lourdes can control people's bodies, and their minds, and even the chemicals inside 'em. Now, that's a whole fucking lot - so she's mostly what I wanna talk about today, I guess. We got Iris and Jean and all those guys who can protect people from stuff like that, but it can still be dangerous. So we're asking you.

I'm giving Lourdes her powers back - but only when she's in the Enclosure with me. Now, I don't think she's gonna hurt me - but if she does, I don't want any of y'all hurting her back, okay? I ain't saying no punishment, or no being mad. Just no torturing or murdering or nothing. Thanks.

anyone ever tell you what the enclosure can do when it's working right

you can program it to be whatever you want. you can make whatever you want. people go in there for nature and hunting and stuff or to see things from home again

[Lourdes doesn't reply for a while, because she's crying.]

[Really and honestly crying, big hard painful sobs that wrack her and leave her exhausted. She was expecting this to work. She really was. She thought, for all the self-righteousness around here, for all the talk, that this would work.]

[And she's not completely lying. She is so hungry for her power. It feels as though Okoya is over her shoulder, digging his nails into her skin, dangling food over her open mouth; she is a Tantalus trapped.]

[When she responds, she's listless, barely even trying.]

[She's kind of bugged the idea, but not nearly as much as most people would be. She's already so used to having no control over her life.]

[She wants so badly to tell Dillon to find her. But at the same time she doesn't, because she remembers how conflicted Lourdes had been when she'd talked about him.]

i mean it about the enclosure. anytime you want for as long as you want i dont care if its in the middle of the night or if i have work or if im doing something else or anything i wont care

[She is literally walking as she types this.]

[She's just. Going to be huddling in her room for a minute, then she slinks through the hall to the Enclosure.]

[Tiffany will be there, leaning against the door, when she shows up.]

Hey.

[Lourdes has clearly been crying, and isn't trying to hide it. Her eyes are puffy, her lips chapped. She doesn't try to smile.]

Hi.

Thanks. [For trying.]

[And Tiffany looks a bit down in the dumps herself. She understands a lot of the arguments made (some of them echo reservations she'd already kind of had herself) and she's not going to ask for Lourdes to have her powers returned with so many people having good reasons to object - she's not even sure the Admiral would agree to it.

But her heart aches for Lourdes.]

There's, like, an intercom - you talk into it and tell it how you want it to look. It'll do it for you.

[She looks at Tiffany a little dully.]

You want me to do it?

Do you care what it looks like?

I don't really care about anything right now.

[Tiffany hesitates, then unlocks the door and steps up to the intercom. They can always change it to something else later if Lourdes doesn't like her pick.]

Hey, uh-- I wanna set this to look like that forest I walked in with Merlin when I was new. The one with the river? And good weather.

[Either that description is good enough, or the Enclosure remembers, because it's instantly laid out in front of them.]
