I been thinking. I thought it was cool how the Enclosure got programmed the way it did for Bucky's party, so I was wondering if I could do that, too-- not for a party, but for a fireworks show. I don't know if any of the people here have ever been to one, but where I come from, they're real popular in the summer. You go to a big empty field at night, sit on blankets, and just... watch. Maybe bring out a keg of beer or something, I don't know. You think the Enclosure could do that?

I wanted to do it on my birthday, if things are all calmed down. Sometimes these shows can get crazy and loud with people dancing and partying, but I know I ain't in a raucous mood, and I bet I'm not the only one. So maybe a quiet one would be good right now. Something relaxing.

It'd be nice, I think.

Merlin's better. He-- it's real complicated, but he didn't mean that stuff he said. I know that nothing was making him say it, but he had those parasites in him that had him thinking it was the best thing to do, and... he regrets it. He changed his mind.

[She sounds relieved, if just a tiny bit wary. She wasn't affected by the Sha herself, and she still isn't 100% clear on what exactly it was or how it worked-- so while she's ever-trusting and wants to give her warden the benefit of the doubt, it's going to take her a week or so of him being normal for her to fully believe that he really is staying, and he really does want her as his inmate.]

I ain't mad at him. Y'all don't have to be either.

I got a bad temper and it wasn't any worse. Why did some people get the parasites and others didn't? Do y'all know?

I'm not sure - but it sounded like they can spread. You know, like a disease.

I must have caught one from someone - I wasn't even in the port, if that's where they came from.

So why didn't I catch it? I touch Merlin and Iris.

[punched_hitler]

[He shakes his head.] No clue. Although experience has taught me that I'll catch anything and everything, just by looking at someone.

[Okay, not that that's possible anymore, but he really doesn't have an explanation.] You'd have to ask someone with more experience. Demons or whatever these are are pretty new to me.

[Her face grows tight.]

I thought they were parasites, not demons.

They had demons in them?

[punched_hitler]

[He remembers what she was saying before, what she was afraid of.] I really don't know. I don't know if any of us know. I just figured... possession, demons, they seem to go together.

[He frowns a little.] But it's hard to say whether what you and I think of as traditional demons in the biblical sense really applies here.

[tucky]

... Yeah. I know.

At least they're out now.

[punched_hitler]

Yeah. I guess it was just like a really, really long flood.

[Except he wonders how long it would have gone on, if no one'd figure it out.]

I could do without that ever happening again.

Me too. But I don't think it was a flood. The Admiral didn't warn us, remember?

[punched_hitler]

No, it definitely wasn't a flood. I don't think he caused it - then again, I don't know if he even causes the floods, or if he just tells us when he spots them.

Yeah. So do I.

I actually feel a little better about that, too, you know? If he doesn't know anything, that makes him a lot more, uh, human. Or fallible, at least. Relatable, even when it puts us at risk.

... Well, I don't think about him like that. He's pretty all-powerful, ain't he? And I like it like that.

[punched_hitler]

Oh, he's definitely powerful, no doubt about it.

I guess I just don't like it when powerful people think they know what's best for everyone, is all.

[tucky]

But what if he does know best?

[punched_hitler]

Maybe he does. But I want the ability to decide that for myself.

[tucky]

Well, we got free will and everything, mostly.

[Mostly.]

Mostly's not good enough.

It's better than you get a lot of other places.

[punched_hitler]

Better.

But not good enough.

What if it's good enough for me?

Then I'd say you shouldn't settle.

But I guess it's up to you, in the end.

How do I not settle?

You decide what you deserve.

Then you do what you can to get it. And you don't give up.

... And I don't mean that in a bad way. This place has given me good things.
