Um-- hey. I was wondering if a warden could go to my room, and get me my iPod and my Bible-- 'cause I ain't in there right now, I'm in the infirmary. Maybe a pack of cards, too; that'd be good.

[She sounds woozy and tired, but surprisingly calm; in good spirits, even. She and Merlin were both killed by kaiju, it had been traumatic, and she's death-tolling-- but she's tired of panicking and stressing about death. Even though she's more used to the idea now, it still bugs her a lot when she thinks about it, so she's actively trying not to do that. It's working pretty well, all things considered. She's not in denial about it the way she used to be, but she's careful to keep her mind focused on other things.

The toll itself sucks, though. It feels kind of like getting the flu after being run over by a steamroller.]

My head ain't right for poker or anything, but if anyone wants to play... I don't know, like Go Fish or something, you can come on down. I wanna see y'all, 'cause I think I'm gonna be stuck in here for a little bit. But that's only if I like you; if I don't, you can fuck off.

... And I also want everybody to know that my warden saved my life.

[And then she'd died right after, but that's not the important part.]

When we were still normal, he said he'd fight monsters for me, and he did. I know we thought we was different people and everything, but I think it still counts for something. He's a hero. A real hero.

[There's a smile in her voice; there's pride. She's been called a hero herself before, by her misguided fan club back at home. But she's never had anyone be a hero for her-- at least, not in the traditional way, where they physically defended her in the face of evil. She doesn't consider herself defenseless by any means, but being protected-- being valued like that-- is such a good feeling, and she's tickled pink by it. She's pushing the fact that he actually died in the process out of her mind, and just focusing in on the good.]

I just wanted to say that. That's all.

[She'll be staying at the infirmary throughout the worst of her death toll, spending most of her time in bed. For the first few days, she'll be lying down a lot: listening to her music, occasionally chatting up visitors and clinic staff, and when she's not too sore or nauseous, trying to recruit people to play cards with her (simple, easy games that don't require a lot of thought or quick movement). As the days go on and she starts feeling better, she'll sit up in bed more, and even get up and move around some. By the fifth day, she'll still be feeling the death toll's affects, but they'll be lessened and she'll be ready to go. But if by that point Merlin's still in and doesn't feel the same way, she'll stick around until he's ready to leave too. Solidarity.]

[OOC: Merlin gets blanket rights to pop into action threads and overhear her side of audio/video phone stuff, even locked conversations! Others who are working/staying in the infirmary can do this too, if they want. If you want your character to talk to Tiffany but want them to say something Merlin/others shouldn't overhear, we can have them do it in text, or set the conversation at a time when people are sleeping and/or not around.]

Lots of people. Mostly wardens; I don't like most inmates much.

... He called me stupid; stuff like that.

[Then she'd tried to stop on his tail.]

Really, you think the wardens aren't assholes? Most people don't have that much faith in the Admiral.

Yeah, he's defensive. Overly so. He's been through a lot of crap due to what he is.

[DO NOT STOMP ON THE TAIL, TIFFANY.]

I like the Admiral. And I like all the wardens I met so far.

... He's been through crap because he's a raccoon, you mean?

Then you're one of the few.

He has. How easy do you think it is going through life as a talking raccoon?

[She shrugs, taking another sip of her hot chocolate.]

I don't know. I thought maybe it was normal where he came from.

A while ago, a friend of mine was ragging on him a little bit. Is that why everyone got so pissed?

I don't think anything's normal where he came from.

What do you mean? Who was -- oh, Mason?

Tiffany, Mason's awesome but he's not the shiniest coin in the fountain.

Yeah, that's what I mean. I thought everyone just really liked raccoons.

[Then she raises her eyebrows at Duke.]

You calling him stupid?

Not so much. I don't think people have ever quite know what to do with him.

Well not reall-- yeah.

[She nods seriously.]

Well... I know you're a warden and you can say what you want and all, but that just ain't true; it ain't true at all. He has given me lots of good advice.

[He also told her to break into someone's room for him, so take that as you will.]

Anyone here can say what they want, warden or inmate. And I'm not saying he doesn't have good advice to give, just that he's... not the brightest.

[It's amazing how fast his big-brother instincts come out.]

[She just shrugs and takes her next move in mancala, but hahaha she totally does.]

[She is unsure if she wants to be cute in this context, though.]

Of course there isn't. It's a good thing.

I mean because crushes are always fun.

[She chuckles.]

Yeah, guess they kind of are. And we are good friends, I think-- me and him.

Best kind of person to have a crush on.

Yeah.

But I ain't gonna go for him or anything; not really. 'Cause he likes someone else, so I think I should try to get over him.

Hey, that part doesn't always matter. That kind of caring for someone is always a good thing. [He thinks of Audrey, his best friend, the most amazing person he's ever met. He thinks of the disappointment he felt when she chose Nathan over him. And he thinks about how happy he was for her anyway.

He smiles a little.]

Yeah, but-- ain't it kind of unhealthy to stay stuck on someone who ain't gonna like you back? I mean...

[She attempts a shrug, which is a little hard in her current position.]

If you like someone but don't really know them as a friend, there's no reason not to go for it anyway, even if they like someone else. If they get all turned off and don't want to talk to you anymore, it ain't as big a loss, 'cause you weren't gonna get them anyway. But if you do like them as a friend, you ain't just losing someone you like, you're losing a friend, too.

Does that make sense?

It makes perfect sense. It's scary, and it can hurt, and it's hard not to let it cut you deep. But the way I see it, if you like someone and like them as a friend that's good. It means they're extra awesome.

Let's turn it around -- if one of your friends here had a crush on you, told you, and you didn't feel the same way, how would you feel? Would it be too awkward to stay friends, or would it be flattering? And how would you feel if you said no and they still wanted to be friends?
